Sit straight. Stop blinking. The SoloCam S220 has returned for its second school year with 2K event video, a solar panel on its head and absolutely no spotlight for the class portrait.
The yearbook caption: previously used and sold as Manufacturer Renewed in the Excellent cosmetic class, this S220 works on its own over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with 8 GB onboard. If you want it paired to a hub, the HomeBase 3 is the documented option; HomeBase 2 and HomeBase Mini pairing is not confirmed for T8134, so ask us before buying a base for this camera. At night, infrared footage is monochrome because the school budget did not approve a spotlight.

The S220 is not a first-day freshman. It was previously used, returned through the manufacturer’s renewal programme and renewed by the manufacturer before this second school year began.
Excellent is the top renewed cosmetic class, not a promise that no hand has ever touched the uniform. Light cosmetic marks can remain, particularly when the casing is examined up close or tilted into strong light. On a wall, those marks do not rewrite the camera’s published specification.
Renewed non-retail packaging replaces the glossy back-to-school carton. It is the practical box that gets the camera to class, not the part anyone mounts above the garage.
Attendance recordThe manufacturer handled the renewal process. CamGuard Australia supplies its own 12-month warranty; Australian Consumer Law rights continue alongside it.
Does Excellent mean visually flawless?
No. Excellent is the tidiest renewed condition class and still permits light handling or cosmetic marks. If untouched presentation matters more than the camera’s function, renewed stock is the wrong school photo package.

Is 15 fps a hidden 30 fps mode waiting in the computer lab?
No. The documented S220 frame rate is 15 fps. It is suited to event security capture; do not buy it expecting a high-frame-rate sports camera because the magpie swoops quickly.

The moving backdrop is the yearbook joke. The technical point stays still: SoloCam S220 has no spotlight; its infrared night footage is monochrome.
Can an app setting create colour night footage?
No. The S220 has no built-in spotlight. Infrared night vision records the dark scene in monochrome; a setting cannot add missing illumination hardware.

Period 04 · the darkroom
Grey night footage, clear expectations, zero surprise flashbulbs.
After sunset, the S220 uses infrared night vision. The resulting footage is monochrome, which is the camera behaving exactly as designed rather than failing an arts elective.
The absence of a spotlight also means there is no bright deterrent lamp built into this model. It can still use two-way audio and its 75 dB siren, but it will not wash the driveway in colour-producing light.
Choose the S220 when discreet infrared coverage suits the location. Choose another model when colour night footage and a visible spotlight are central requirements, especially if the house treats every parcel arrival as a red-carpet event.

Period 05 · computer lab storage policy
Eight gigabytes live on the camera. The cloud, NAS and endless recording get detention.
The S220 can work without a HomeBase because its local event archive already has a desk inside the camera.
Event recording
Motion events are the format. There is no continuous recording mode running through every class period.
No cloud or NAS
eufy states that the S220 does not support cloud storage or NAS/RTSP. The computer lab cannot negotiate an exception.
Can a microSD card expand the S220?
The documented standalone storage is 8 GB built-in eMMC; the S220 does not need a microSD card. Do not promise a card slot or card expansion that is not part of this model’s fact set.
Does HomeBase 3 add continuous recording?
No. Optional HomeBase 3 does not turn the S220 into a 24/7 continuous camera. Recording mode and storage destination are separate questions.

Period 06 · optional excursion
The S220 can stay at school alone. Only the HomeBase 3 turns up with a signed permission slip.
Unlike an add-on camera that needs a base to wake up, the S220 can join 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi directly and use its own storage. The HomeBase 3 is the base eufy documents for it, and even that is optional. HomeBase 2 and HomeBase Mini pairing is not confirmed for T8134, so ask us before buying a base for this camera.
Standalone route
Connect directly to compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, record events to the built-in 8 GB and use the eufy Security app.
Optional hub route: the HomeBase 3
The HomeBase 3 is the documented optional base and it adds central storage. Facial recognition is a HomeBase 3 enhancement, not a standalone promise.
HomeBase 2 unconfirmed
An older S220 page says pre-HomeBase 3 bases are unsupported, and eufy's material is not consistent about it. We do not promise HomeBase 2 or HomeBase Mini pairing, so ask us before buying one for this camera.
Is a HomeBase included or required?
No HomeBase is required, and none is included. A HomeBase 3 is the documented optional base; HomeBase 2 and HomeBase Mini are not confirmed for this camera, so ask us before buying one.
Does it use 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
No. The S220 uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. If a router combines bands under one network name, make sure the setup process can present a compatible 2.4 GHz route.

Is three hours a guarantee?
No. It is eufy’s optimal-sunlight scenario under average use. Shade, weather, frequent motion, long events and live viewing can consume more power than the panel collects.

Human detection watches the corridor. The possum remains free to pursue electives.
On-device human detection helps separate a person from ordinary motion. The PIR sensor is rated to detect movement up to 10 metres under suitable conditions, which is useful hall-monitor range rather than a promise across the entire oval.
eufy publishes a 200-metre Wi-Fi figure only for a clear and open environment. Walls, metal, neighbouring networks and the mysterious cupboard containing every router’s worst day can shrink real range considerably.
Two-way audio supports a conversation at the camera, while the 75 dB siren can add an audible warning. Alexa and Google Assistant are supported. Apple Home is not.
